A Guide for Understanding
Orthokeratology.

Depending on the shape of your eye, the light rays which enter your eye and send pictures to your brain can be focused incorrectly, causing blurry vision.

When your eye is shaped so that images focus in front of the retina, you have a condition called myopia, or nearsightedness. Myopia may be corrected by wearing glasses, contact lenses (for Orthokeratology or otherwise), or through surgery.

Orthokeratology is a non-surgical contact lens procedure used to reduce or eliminate myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism by temporarily changing the curvature of the cornea.

Just as surgery to correct myopia reshapes your eye, orthokeratology has the same effect without the risk, discomfort, or expense of surgery.

Orthokeratology uses specially designed contact lenses to gently change the shape of your eye while you sleep. This lessens your myopia, improving your vision after you remove the lenses. You will also have excellent vision while wearing the lenses.

Orthokeratology contact lenses for your eye are similar to orthodontics, or braces for your teeth. Orthokeratology flattens the shape of the cornea during wear, resulting in sharper vision while not wearing the lenses.

The procedure involves wearing the Nightform™ Contact Lenses for a period of time. Usually they are worn overnight, but sometimes during the day. After you remove the lenses, your vision should be sharper, in most cases 20/20 or better.

This noninvasive procedure is completely reversible, unlike with Laser Correction. If your vision changes, your doctor can change your Nightform™ Contact Lenses to compensate.

The procedure is most effective on persons with low amounts of myopia or astigmatism (-1.00 to -3.00). People with prescriptions under -3.00 can expect to achieve 20/20 vision in a few days.

Orthokeratology is approved by the FDA as an overnight wear procedure. While you are sleeping, the lenses are at work. When you remove your lenses you should be able to see without them. Most people achieve clear, 20/20 vision, without glasses or contact lenses, that usually last all day.
